Mary Schmidt Amons, cast member of Bravo's "The Real Housewives of DC" and founder of Labels for Love, created “Modus Union” this one of a kind unique event to collaborate our active philanthropic, political, and artistic communities within the Nation's Capital. Modus Union was formed from two words that represent unification with positive intent. The Washington, DC area is the leading world capital and we are seeing the combination of artistic talent and a youthful energy not seen since the Kennedy era. The time has come to collaborate with these disparate groups of influence to showcase opportunities in an effort to make a positive social and philanthropic impact by maximizing our impact on the Nation's Capital and its global influence. Labels For Love beneficiary partner this year is Fran Drescher and her Cancer Schmancer Foundation. Cancer Schmancer is dedicated to saving women's lives through early detection and prevention of cancer. As you may know, Fran Drescher is a 10-year uterine cancer survivor and a leading advocate for the early detection of women's cancer. Fran and her Foundation are continuing to make a major global impact, through sharing her personal story as well as educating women on the causes of cancers and the importance and methods of early detection

The Yards ParkThis riverfront park provides green space to enjoy the outdoors along the river. My good friends decided that they wanted to do something special for me after hearing the news of my breast cancer, and as fabulous as they are they decided to throw a fundraiser for me as we all know cancer isnt cheap. this is the blog we created http://cirquedeboobles.blogspot.com/

so these are my pieces : and a little explaination for them the "sometimes my arms bend backwards"pieces are based on a statement that laura palmer in fire walk with me, she said those words to cooper at the blacklodge as he started to piece things together....which ultimately ment that bob tied her arms back before he killed her....so i decided to capture instead the statement and the promiscuity that got laura into trouble.....the gateway to the black lodge is a drawing i couldnt resist doing.....the whole concept of the black lodge facinates me i feel like its a constant theme that is present in all of lynchs films...it makes me curious as to what the white lodge must look like .....yea im working on that piece.....aaand for blue velvet in the black lodge i though that as much as dorothy was a victim she enjoyed the sadist masachist things she was forced into just like laura palmer.....a pivitol scene in fire walk with me is when bob discovers the two girls and begins to torture them ronnettes character repented and was saved by an "angel" that disappeared from a painting laura had in her bedroom,
and appeared to her at the night of her "almost murder"; which leads me back to dorothy, although she was tortured the only way she felt any sort of pleasure was through the very same thing she feared, just like laura palmer, who after many years of bob sneeking into her room to rape her, it slowly became consentual, as traumatized as laura was she enjoyed her encounters with bob although she feared him....yes very cranial....and screwed up........thus me placing dorothy in the dark lodge, she and laura are kindred spirits....at least thats my take on it.....enjoy!!!

so ive been reflecting a lot on my artwork and what is its purpose
what is its significance
why is it important
wheres it going
how fast how slow
and why.
the first introduction of my work to the world was at naked duck art gallery
thanks to my buddy bryn
it was by far the most interesting experience
i ever had
the majority of the crowd thought the work was done by a man
never mind my name is clearly a female
name

back then in 2002
it wasnt received well
women were offended and totally outraged
oddly enough men understood it....

my logic was of course they understand it because
...it is...
the man;
who decides,
what the image of woman should be.
Having the knowledge that there is alot more going on underneath candy covered facades
with ribbon
....and.........shiny perty things

i thought to myself well they'll come around.
i have faith the chicas will open their minds eye

its 2009 ive shown around the globe.......
(no kidding, my works been places ive never been amusing but quite sad if you think about it)

and im at a cross roads....
today
people are.....
a little
more open minded
a little
more desensitized
..... to a degree....

through interactions, observations and visiting many forums researching the state of art these
days

i found that no one wants to admit their inner demons by displaying it on a wall.
people prefer to be safe
to be "dumbed down"
and live in a perpetual
"self inflicted fantastical non-reality"

the truth
what is it?
people search long and hard for it
DEMAND it even
but once the truth is set before their eyes
they....
reject it.

turning back to the web of lies,
they've built for themselves
aided by the subliminal messages
projected in everyday nuances
put there by the powers that be
to nullify
and mute
the act of questioning
and vocalizing.....

the complexity of layers that inequitably lay beneath "IT" all.
shouting for a release
a way to be seen
a way to be heard.

yet here we stand you and i....
and no ones listening

fist in the air
shouting loudly
my voice channeled through to my veins
pouring into my sword as i strike down with
all the anger and might of my people onto a surface that everyones voice may be heard
A MIRROR
and what happens.....

a crowd forms around me
listening deafly
and
the crowd disapates
destracted by the 1200 dollar shirt that went on sale at barneys for 600

tired and disappointed i step down from my soapbox
drop the mic( feedback loud as hell)
and thats all they noticed
unimportantly loud silence...

i walk away....
not defeated.....
instead enlightened....
thinking to my self
im going to have to wrap shit in a kitkat wrapper for these mutha fuckers to fucking get it
